Social Security Belongs to the People.

Barack Obama, President of the United States, in the recent State of the Union Speech has declared that he wants to cut Social Security COLA. He states that this cut will be beneficial but most do not agree with this statement. The cuts to social security will affect current retirees, retirement age of future retirees, and their children. People who have retired already will be affected by the cut because their earnings will go done significantly each year. Retirement age will go up because most will not be able to afford to retire with the money they are saving right now. Twenty-first century children will not be able to retire in the future as the earnings from the cut will continue to go down each year, resulting in a very small amount of money given to them in the future when they are ready to retire. Cutting social security is not beneficial to the future and current retirees.
First, thousands of people who are currently retired, disabled, or a veteran will be affected by the cuts to social security as their earnings will go down thousands each year. The NY Times calculated just how much the cut would affect an average woman, “So take a woman with an initial benefit of $1,100 a month, or $13,200 a year, which is the median benefit of a woman 65 or older, according to the National Woman’s Law Center. By the time she is 75, her benefits would be $41 less a month, or nearly $500 a year less than under the current program.” This cut will affect any current retiree and force many to get a part-time job as they can’t afford to live off retirement.
Next, because of the inconsistency of the earnings every year for future retirees the retirement age will go up. Under the current program, the average age to retire is 65 but this will go down significantly as year’s progress. In Barack Obama’s State of the Union 2011 speech he paints a false image of perfect benefits for the current and future retirees, “To put us on solid ground, we should also find a bipartisan solution to strengthen Social Security for future generations. We must do it without putting at risk current retirees, the most vulnerable, or people with disabilities; without slashing benefits for future generations; and without subjecting Americans’ guaranteed retirement income to the whims of the stock market.” Barack Obama has been known to be able to “talk the talk but not walk the walk.” He is definitely doing just that when it comes to cutting social security; he has made it sound like a magnificent idea but under all the gilding, the plan is disastrous.
Finally, for future generations retirement is not viable. Because the cuts will be so drastic each year, by the time children who are only age six in the year 2014 will not be able to retire. The benefit of retiring could be completely dissolved by the time twenty-first children are at the eligible age to retire. Barack Obama’s plan is not going to “strengthen social security for future generations” as he stated, but rather terminate it for good. This benefit has been one that is something one looks forward to their entire life, and now children will not have that ability when they are older and it is not fair. The poverty rate for children has increased greatly over the years and will continue to skyrocket for this generation if this cut is put into action.
Barack Obama’s cuts are not beneficial or secure for current or future generations. All retirees will be affected by these social security cuts. Current retirees will be forced to obtain a part time job in order to make ends meet in daily life. The retirement age will skyrocket from these cuts as there won’t be any money to use to retire. Children of the current generation and on will no longer be able to retire and the social security cut will completely dissipate. Cutting social security is going to result in thousands to not be able to make ends meet and the poverty level will increase. Barack Obama needs to reconsider these cuts with America’s common people in mind.

Yo.

So basically I am sick and I want to go home. I went to Rachel's house on Monday for a project. Leá fell out of bed. I don't know what to tell ya. I want to die. My throat is on fire. I might pass out. :(

Exchange Students.

This weekend my exchange student arrived from France. Her name is Leá. We picked her up from the airport at around 12 in the morning and brought her home. She explained to us she had been to Chattanooga before on vacation. On Saturday we went to see the One Direction movie with her. Rachel came along with us and we had a great time.

On Sunday we went to hang out with my youth group and she got to make some new friends. We introduced her to an American classic movie called Dumb and Dumber, which she found to be hilarious. Monday we just hung around with my family and she got to meet my grandmother. We didn't go to boomsday because of the awful crowds.

Most impressive about the growth of computer technology.

I think the most impressive thing about computer technology growth is the size. We went from computers the size of rooms to computers smaller than our palm. I think it's amazing that it's been only a few years and we've come so far in technology. Before we could only print data, now we can surf the internet and learn new things everyday with a slide of a screen or press of a button. I can't believe people have been so innovative and have come up with things such as touch screens and now they're developing the idea of not even having to get up, you can just swipe your arm to the left and the channel will change on a television. I can't wait to see what we can create next.

What I found most impressive from the Steve Jobs video.

What I found most interesting about the Steve Jobs video we watched today in Computer Science was that Steve Jobs dropped out of school and still ended up with millions. I thought it was really inspirational that if he couldn't afford something or if it wasn't invented yet, he built it. He was so creative and he had to have been a genius. I never understand why he was such a big deal until we watched this video. Another thing I found really impressive was how he wasn't in it for the money, he was doing something he loved. He truly loved to build things and create, and made sure to put his best in all he did. I believe that is a key in success in life is if you put your all into something you love you will never be miserable. Steve Jobs is truly inspiring and impressive.

The KCS Retreat

Kaylyn 'twerking'.
The KCS retreat was a lot better than I expected. I had expected it to be lame and stupid, but it turned out to be fun and excited for the rest of the year. I feel like I am closer to the Juniors and rest of my school. I loved spending time with my friends and teachers.
Austin and Kaylyn playing 1 on 1.
During free time we played tether ball with Mr. Hale, who absolutely destroyed all of us. We also played some volleyball and basketball. Austin and Kaylyn played one on one with each other, and we also played three on one.

Kaylyn's face speaks for itself.
On the last day we were at the camp, Tiffany gave us some french fries from Taiwan that were in a bag. I expected them to be nasty, but they tasted exactly like french fries.

'Photogenic Frenzy'
Mr. Hale showed us some pictures of himself when he was younger and we thought it was hilarious that back in the 80's he had the 'Bieber cut'. We decided it should be the 'Hale cut' now.
The Hale cut.
One of the props was passed around the camp. Sweeney had worn it in the senior skit as the Lion in Wizard of Oz, and from afar he looked like a girl.
Mrs. Bateman looking foxy.

Mr. Hale or Hagrid.

On our way to the camp we had a jam session to Bohemian Rhapsody.

Overall this retreat was extremely fun and I loved hanging out with my friends from school and building new relationships I might not have gained otherwise. I also feel like I grew closer to God during this trip and I can't wait to start my new beginning on Monday morning.
